As the first 15-membered ring macrolide antibiotic, azithromycin acts mainly by blocking the transformation of bacteria into peptide and inhibiting the synthesis bacterial protein. The product has the following features: potent antibacterial activity, stable in acid medium, rapid absorption or oral administration. Aithromycin is widely into various tissues, with the tissue concentration 50 times higher than blood concentration. Furthermore, azithromycin has the characteristic of target cell-directed transfer in that the concentration in infectious tissues is greater than that in non-infectious tissues. Azithromycin has high bioavailability, long elimination half-life, short treatment period and few adverse reactions. Azithromycin is clinically used in upper respiratory infections, lower respiratory infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and simple genital infections caused by bacteria susceptible to azithromycin.
