Glycine ,Aminoacetic acid, abbreviated as Gly or G, is the smallest molecular weight of the 20 protein amino acids. It is white or light yellow crystals, soluble in water, sweet. The side bond of glycine is a hydrogen atom. Since its alpha carbon also has a hydrogen atom, glycine is not optically isomeric. Since the side bonds of glycine are very small, they can occupy other spaces where the amino acids can not be occupied, such as amino acids within the collagen spine. In some proteins (such as cytochrome, myoglobin and hemoglobin) it changes little like evolutionary evolution, because the structure of the whole protein changes if a relatively large amino acid replaces it. Most proteins contain only a small amount of glycine, collagen is an important exception, it contains one third of glycine. 



 



Glycine is the simplest structure in the 20members of amino acid series, also knows as amino acetate. It is a non-essential amino acid for the human body and contains both acidic and basic functional group inside its molecule.
