Oxytetracycline hydrochloride 1,000 mg<br />
Description<br />
Oxytetracycline is a broad-spectrum antibiotic, effective against a large number of Gram-positive and<br />
Gram-negative bacteria (except Pseudomonas, Klebsiella and Proteus spp.).<br />
Indications<br />
Oxytetracycline hydrochloride is effective against Actinomyces, Rickettsia, Mycoplasma and Chlamydia and<br />
is therefore recommended for the treatment of Mortellaro, Moraxella bovis conjunctivitis in calves, atrophic<br />
Rhinitis and MMA syndrome in pigs, Pasteurella multocida and Mycoplasma infections in poultry. The<br />
antibiotic effect is bacteriostatic.<br />
Contra-indications<br />
Do not administer to animals with kidney and/or liver malfunctioning. Do not administer to animals that have<br />
microbiological digestion in the alimentary tract, such as horses, cattle, guinea pigs and hamsters.<br />
Side-effects<br />
None.<br />
Incompatibility with other drugs or substances<br />
Do not combine with other antibiotics like penicillin and cephalosporin.<br />
Dosage and administration<br />
For oral administration via feed or drinking water.<br />
Calves : 40 mg per kg bodyweight daily, during 3 - 7 days.<br />
Pigs : 400 g per 1,000 kg of feed, or 20 - 40 mg per kg bodyweight during 3 - 7 days.<br />
Poultry : 200 g per 1,000 litres of drinking water during 3 - 7 days.<br />
Mixed with feed, the product should be used immediately. Medicated drinking water should be used within 24<br />
hours.<br />
Solutions in water become turbid on standing due to the precipitation of Oxytetracycline. High concentrations<br />
of iron, copper and calcium in the water can result in formation of coagulation complexes.<br />
Withdrawal period<br />
Meat: Calves : 8 days<br />
Poultry : 7 days<br />
Pigs : 5 days<br />
Eggs : 5 days<br />
Storage<br />
Store in a dry, dark place between 2 °C and 25 °C.<br />
Store in closed packing.<br />
Keep medicine away from children.<br />
