1 - TARGET

To test impulse current strength of MV lightning Arresters.
High current impulse generator

2 - IMPULSE WAVEFORM

- Lightning current impulses : an 8/20 current impulse with limits on the adjustment of equipment such that the measured values are from 7 to 9 µs for the virtual front time and from 18 to 22 µs for the time to half value on the tail.
- Lightning current impulses : an 4/10 current impulse with limits on the adjustment of equipment such that the measured values are from 3.5 to 4.5 µs for the virtual front time and from 9 to 11 µs for the time to half value on the tail.

Virtual front time: the time in microseconds equal to 1.25 multiplied by the time in microseconds for the current to increase from 10% to 90% of its peak value.
Virtual origin: the point on graph of current versus time determined by the intersection between the time axis at zero current and the straight line drawn through two reference points on the front : 10% and 90% of the peak value.

4 - REQUIRED PERFORMANCES

8/20µs waveform:

10 kA for arresters with 120kV residual voltage.

4/10µs waveform:

65 kA for arresters with 120kV residual voltage.
100 kA for arresters with 50kV residual voltage.
