Liquid thermometer history:
The design of this thermometer originates from the physics theory of Italy scientist Galileo Galilei (1564-1642): the liquid density changes with temperature. As the temperature increases, the liquid density becomes small, thus the floating power decreases, which makes the floating ball go down. And vice versa, when temperature decreases, the floating ball goes up with the increase of the liquid density.

Because of the different producing methods, the reading of Single Thermometer is just opposite to that of the regular mercury ones. The scale of the Single Thermometer: the warmer is the temperature, the lower is the scale. Please see the illustration.
