We are a steel mill in Indonesia, and we have a 12 mt Electric Arc Furnace with 3 set of Rolling Mills. We have been trying to expand our EAF capacity, but we are restricted with the availability and restriction of electricity. We are currently using 6 MVA for our 12 mt EAF, and we are only allowed another 10 MVA for new EAF, which is far from enough. 10 MVA probably just for 20 mt EAF. The reason is EAF causes too much flicker, not simply electricity shortage. We also have another 3 MVA for Rolling Mills, Straightening Machines as well as Air Separation Plant ( Oxygen & Nitrogen ).

We come across an idea of using several Induction Furnace to replace EAF. Induction Furnace is famous and commonly used in China. We are thinking of using Induction Furnace for melt-down, while EAF for refining.

We would like to know if your company has experiences in this kind of Induction Furnace usage. We would like to produce at least 30 mt ( EAF equivalent ) x 12 ~ 16 charges a day, without causing too much flicker. With the latest and more advance technology, we need to know the production cost breakdown, and whether the production cost is comparable to using EAF. Inaddition, we also need Continuous Casting Machine ( CCM ) with 4 strands of interchangable sizes of : 100 x 100, 110 x 110 and 120 x 120 mm2.
